Fred Ipalook Elementary School is located in Utqiagvik, the northernmost community in the United States. The school serves over 500 students in Pre-K-5th grades.

Utqiagvik is located on the Chukchi Sea coast, 10 miles south of Point Barrow. It lies 725 air miles from Anchorage.

The majority of Utqiagvik residents are Inupiat. Traditional marine mammal hunts and other subsistence practices are an active part of the culture. Bowhead, gray, killer, and beluga whales migrate near Utqiagvik each summer.
